*** Three Stars & a Wish ***
age is merely a concept, you're never too old to dream
After having a wonderful coffee with a friend of mine in Victoria, i was intrigued by her current challenge on Facebook to post 3 things she is grateful for every day for 21 days. It reminded me of being at Camp Potlatch when each night with the kids we would lay in bed and all share our 3 stars of the day, and one wish for the next day.
Carolyne inspired me to start a similar concept on my blog. Due to the craziness of travel I do not anticipate that I will be able to post in here daily.
That being said, any day that someone takes a few moments to reflect on their day and point out 3 of the many things they have to be grateful for and look ahead to what they have to be excited for, well that's a good day!
We live in a world with so much opportunity and possibility to seek out your own passion, to not take the time to recognize how lucky you are.. it's doing yourself a dis-favour.

April 27th /28thStar #1 - I woke up this morning in a cozy tent, on a grassy area, beside a beautiful river with the sun shining down. I had a hot shower, two cups of delicious coffee and happily munched down a delicious plate to freshly made hashbrowns and eggs a la Luke. We had an unwritten tradition in Victoria that weekends meant delicious breakfast, consisting of hashbrowns, (always made by Luke, he's really the best at it) eggs and bacon. This morning made me realize how wonderful those mornings were!!Star #2 - After dinner tonight Luke and I went for a moonlit walk along the beautiful red sandy beach in Paihia, New Zealand. It is a resort town in the Bay of Islands. As we walked we both realized that we truly in a paradise! Beautiful palm trees, red sandy beach that stretches on for days, sail boats, moonlight, warm enough to not shiver, thoughts of a sailboat cruise the next day... bliss!

Star #3 - We have been so lucky with weather on our excursion up North. It rained one night but only during the night and we were safe in our tent! The sun has been shining and it has been so very warm! How great is it!? And it's meant to be the autumn, moving into winter here. It's been fantastic. My wish for tomorrow --- and this is where my internet cut out.. now it is tomorrow.. so I can post this: We went for a sailboat tour around the Bay of Islands, including an island stopover where we hiked to a lookout with amazing views, kayaked, snorkeled, search for shells to later make jewelry with and basically just loved life! Luke even got to sail the boat for a little while! Even though the sun wasn't out, it was warm and just wonderful!! :-) |
April 24thStar #1 - Today has been a bit of a challenge for me.. for no apparent reason, I have been bitten by the "glum bug". However, lucky for me I have some very amazing friends in my life and I have been able to pull on their natural enthusiasm and happiness to lift my spirits. I didn't actually talk to any of them, so they don't know they've helped me.. but just focusing my thoughts on their good natures has helped me remember mine. Thanks :-)
Star #2 - I painted a playhouse. A birthday present for a happy little 5, almost 6, year old girl. It brought back memories of my playhouse in Delta, and then memories of growing up and being a kid. Which then led me to appreciating just how wonderful my parents were and how much love and support they gave me. Which made me smile! Star #3 - Selfish and silly - if there was a year that I was out of the country for the NHL playoffs, it might as well be the year that the best team in league gets knocked out in the first round.. now I can't possibly miss the 'nucks winning the Stanley Cup!! |
My wish for the next two days are as follows: a. That the birthday party tomorrow for said almost-6-year-old is a bright and sunny day b. That luke and I have a safe and fun journey to Cape Reinga (the most Northern tip of New Zealand - where the Tasman Sea and North Pacific Ocean meet) and the Bay of Islands - tough life we lead eh? heehee |
April 17th - A Good Day!Star #1 - Sunshine, glorious heart-warming, skin-glowing, t-shir and shorts wearing sunshine is what permeated the majority of my day today! Equipped with a hike through sheep-filled rollings hills, the view of a beautiful waterfall and dipping my toes in freezing cold completely clear water! All after some good old fashioned manual labour in the morning. Does a day get much better than that?
Star # 2 - I have falled even more in love with my travel companion, and it feels amazingly right. I like this :)
|
Star # 3 - After a week of working on a small farm and getting to know the noisy family of mom, three children, two cats, one fat dog, five cows, two pigs and many many chickens, I am finally feeling at home and comfortable here.
My wish for tomorrow is that the Canucks can figure themselves out. Canucks fans don't need any more drama!!! |
April 1st, 2012Star #1 - I feel so incredibly lucky that the weather has been so desirable these past two weeks! I hate to say, but I genuinely get anxious about the weather and the fact that it is approaching Winter in NZ.. so I feel so blessed that I get to experience these cities in glorious sunshine now!! :-D
Star #2 - It's been two weeks... and Luke and I still like each other...woohoo! I never really doubted that we'd be good to travel together.. but you never know. So yay us for being awesome! We seem to laugh together about the silliest little things... which I think is definitely for the best! |
Star #3 - It may sound silly, but I am so thankful that I can still access the internet on my phone, and still use my messaging. Everytime I have the chance to talk to someone from home.. it seems to rejuvinate me, and remind me that what I am doing is oh-so-awesome! So thank you everyone! I love sharing this trip with you!!
My wish is that we manage to find a vehicle this week (the car in my last post was a no-go... the guy sold it riiiight before he let us even offer.. bummer!) Luke really really wants one, and it does make sense for travelling around.. plus there are loads of freedom camping sites - so we'd save a lot of money on hostels! Fingers crossed!! |
March 21st, 2012 - NZ Time
Star #1 - I have chosen the best backpacking buddy that I could! Luke and I have so much fun together, and are also able to just spend time being quiet and soaking in this beautiful scenery around us!! It's wonderful.
Star #2 - That yesterday was oh-so-sunny and I even got a bit pink from all the sunshine... makes me feel like I truly am on vacation! I am such a sun-lover! And being on a massive pure sand beach in Raglan while enjoying the sunshine ain't too shabby either!! |
Star #3 - We are headed to visit a friend's aunt tonight, who lives just outside of Raglan. I am so thankful for her hospitality and excited to meet the family! Thanks Jorden! My wish is that when we meet with this guy in a few hours to view his beat-up, road-trip ready Toyota Camry wagon... that it works out and we end up buying it.. to continue this awesome journey in style!!! |
March 7th, 2012Star #1 - My furry nephew Bandit!
He fills my heart with joy!!! |
Star #2 - I have been lucky enough to spend quite a few afternoons having incredible conversations with very important people in my life. I am grateful for the light these individuals shed on my life through these conversations!
Star #3 - That social media appears to finally be making an impact for the better. KONY 2012 is a step in the right direction for social media mania. It brings together individuals across the entire globe and allows them to access the same information at one time, in hopes that this will make a change! Very inspirational. My wish for tomorrow is... well, I don't need to make one. Tomorrow I get to be reunited with Luke. He has been in 100 Mile House working since January. I've seen him once since he went up there. It's been a long time! He is now officially done work, I am officially done work.. we're both funemployed!! Doesn't that sound fun? Well it is! So tomorrow he will be coming to Vancouver and we get to finally spend some time together!! If I were to make a wish, it would be that he comes to me in one piece! And a BIG hug :-) oh.. and happy birthday yesterday to one of my favourite people in the world!!! xoxo Clairebear!! |
March 4th, 2012Star #1 - I spent the afternoon with a fabulous individual who gives me nothing but love and support, as well as delicious home-cooked food. We let the afternoon float by while we gabbed and gabbed about world issues and individual teeny tiny problems. She has sent me off on my journey with a few fabulous items that will make my trip all the more comfier! I love you Ronda!
My wish is that tomorrow will be a fun-filled, laughter-filled and easy to please day of auntie and niece fun. We will be going to Rebar restaurant for our late birthday lunch (both of our birthdays are in May.. apparently we both got busy and put it off for 10 months) followed by a wonderfully freeing and grounding walk along the beach!! Perfection. |
Star #2 - I woke up this morning early, wide-awake, and with nothing that I had to do. That feels amazing! So, I did what I love to do most, I lay in bed, sipping a coffee and contemplating this wonderful journey I am about to be on. Star #3 - I am so grateful that I am able to be living at my aunt's right now. Having her in my life brings peace, happiness, joy, excitement and contentment. |
My wish is a bit silly today, but still completely true! I wish that these two band-aids on my fingers will be unnecessary in a day or two as I am finding it very very challenging to type with them on.. thus leading to less blogging.. it's no good I tell ya. And the funny part is, one band-aid is the result of a very intense paper cut I got on my second to last day in the office.. a sign perhaps?
My wish is that the people I am surrounded with now will take something away from this big change that I am making, and hopefully will unveil a passion of their own, determine how they can fulfill that passion, and then.. just.. do it! It is one of the most liberating things I have done in a long time... and I haven't even left yet! :-D
My wish is that I continue to hold this open mind throughout the entire trip. I am in such a positive and powerful mental space right now, I truly want to use all of my willpower to keep myself there. There is nothing more rewarding than challenging yourself and being successful! So whatever successful may mean to me down the road..
I want to find it with a smile on my face.
I want to find it with a smile on my face.
